The 'Zuk Pages

Here is my Suzuki Samurai. It is a lifted 1987 that is a work in progress. I am building it into a vehicle that can go all the places that I want to go. I have owned two Jeeps, both 77's and it was never clear what the big deal with the Suzuki Samurai was. Now that there is one in the driveway, I have found it to be a very capable OHV with one major difference between it and the Jeeps; it is relatively cheap to build a Samurai up.

The modifications that I am performing are being done in stages. Some things need to be addressed at the same time, like tires size increases, suspension lifts, and gearing changes need to be done at one time so that the complete package works smoothly. Engine mods need to be worked out, such as exhaust system and header assembly installation done at the same time as any carburetor work.

The day it came home.

As it grew....

I have taken some trails that were intimidating at first, but after a few minutes I was relaxed and just knew that the Zuk was going to handle it all perfectly. It did, and I am happy with my choice. One thing I have to say is that is is not my '77 CJ-5, nor is it my '77 Cherokee Chief. Those were vehicles that had totally different designs approaches and they were neither worse or better. The Samurai is an excellent vehicle in its own right and one that I am convinced will be able to handle all that I will expect of it.

Getting better. This is with new tires (finally).

On these pages I will be outlining the various things I do to the Zuk. I will try to provide some detail and guidance should I find some way of doing something easier than the accepted manner. I will also try to provide some results of whatever changes I make.

All in all, my goal is to create a good vehicle that is practical above all else. I want to have something that I can use to get into remote location reliably. I am not looking for the biggest and baddest, but instead I prize function.
