The Gearing! |
||
| I am in the process of re-gearing the Zuk to 4.89:1 ratios in the transfer
case, and this will bring my final reduction ration to the wheels down to
66:1 from 30:1. This work gives me better crawl abilities, though it is
still a bit high for my tastes. I am looking into some of the options that
are available for secondary reduction setups, like second t-cases and the
like.
Ultimately I would like to get a ratio of 100:1 or lower in order to get the maximum to the ground power, but I have to consider that this is my daily driver as well, so I cannot jeopardize the road abilities either. The next phase to this is to install traction aids like lockers. I am still in the checking out the different differential locks to see which will work and still stay within my budget for the time being. One Idea that I have been looking into is getting a "multiplier" to fit in between the transmission and the T-case. These units are made by multiple manufacturers and come in everything from 2:1 to 6:1. I am currently only playing with the idea as these units cost the big bucks. My current final drive ratio in low is 66:1 and with a 4:1 multiplier that would drop all the way to 260:1. A true crawl! This would be nice, but can wait. Here are some pictures I took while I tore the system down. I have no pictures of putting it back together as I wanted to concentrate on the actual job at hand. |
